The Captain's Report · Report No. 2

The invoice nobody claimed

Report No. 2 — One real, anonymized management case, and the rule it leaves for your business. Short, the way I talk.

Listen to the report

The case

A supplier delivered the goods and the invoice sat «to review» in the inbox. Days went by. The owner was sure it was already paid — after all, the supplier never called to chase it. Until the supplier froze the account for non-payment, on a Thursday, and the business ran out of stock on its biggest weekend. The invoice was smaller than what the business sells on a Saturday morning.

What a manager would do

Every invoice that comes in gets logged the same day, with its due date. On Mondays, you look at what comes due in the next seven days, no exceptions. Paying on time is not tidiness: it's credit — the supplier who gets paid on time is the one who delivers to you first when goods run short. A debt is not discovered when they freeze your account: it's discovered in the log, with time to spare.

Rule #2

«The invoice you don't log the day it arrives gets paid the day it hurts.»

Relax. It's already in motion.
